$100 Words (or How Can They Find Me?)

If you’re in business, then you’re likely looking for ways to increase that business, to bring in more customers.  One of the first approaches that usually come to mind will be marketing, one definition being “the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of goods, services, and ideas to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organization objectives.”

Part of this concept will be advertising, or the business of drawing public attention to goods and services.  As part of this approach, we consider who, as a group, our customers are, and where we can find them.  Needless to say, in this day of computers (or PC’s,) we look at the internet, or to having a web presence online.  This means promotion of our goods or services by means of a web site (sometimes called website,) either our own or that of someone else.

Your website, this electronic means of advertising, first must be available to the consumer.  Other than by direct referral, “see my website at www.myname.com or www.adkins9.net” (your domain name,) our prospective customers will search for certain keywords.  These keywords must not only appear in your website, but must be available in your “meta tags” (tags on your website visible to the search engines, but essentially invisible to the public.)  In this way the public can find you on the web by searching for words that describe his or her interest.  We call this search engine optimization (or SEO.)

This first part of your web design must be your message, perhaps brief and to the point.  The second part, as in any advertising, is to present your message in an appealing way.  Ideally, our message will convey valuable information (or news) to the public, and providing education and entertainment (be fun to visit) at the same time.  Your webdesign may include pictures, photos, even art.  Finally, unless you have a large business, you will need someone to provide web hosting and maintain your website. Web hosting, simply, is someone putting your information on their computer with an internet connection.  Email (or e-mail) services are usually provided as well.

The words in red are not to give you eyestrain, but as an example of keywords that someone might use to search for a business that provides web design and hosting.  In your case, it could be travel, real estate, shopping, home, gifts, holiday, golf, vacation, house, hotel, etc.  These are all “high profile” words.  In our case, we might include Hendersonville, NC, western North Carolina, etc., if it were important to let the public know where our business is located.

Keep in mind:

1.      Your message

2.      Look good

3.      Be highly visible

… and use YOUR $100 Words in both your message and your meta tags.

Please consider Adkins9.net Web Design for your web design and hosting needs.
